so, what is improv, really?
In
improv, you call the shots! Improv is a comedy without a script,
and instead we do scenes based on your suggestions.
We may ask for an object, a relationship between two people or a location.
Then we will make up a scene right there on the spot, just like that,
with no time to prepare. Therefore, we'll have to be ready, quick with
our wits, and - more importantly - have lots of fun doing it, because
no two scenes are ever the same!
Every suggestion - even the seemingly mundane one - leads to many exciting
possibilities. A location suggestion of a library led
to an instigator inciting would-be terrorists to make a plastic bomb.
An object suggestion of pillow led to a depressed ex-beauty pageant
winner's futile attempts to commit suicide. There is no limit to what
can happen!
improv games
One show is divided into many fast-paced improv games: 3-minute
scenes, each with different rules. There are a whole lot of games, and
every week we play different ones. For example:
-
Word at a time: from your suggestion of an object, we'll
tell you a story with a moral value - but speaking in turn, and
only one word for each person.
-
Quote notes: we get suggestions of movie quotes (e.g, "Luke,
I'm your father") and we get to incorporate them into the scene
- even though they may not make sense!
-
Director's chair : you get to pick your (non-existent) movie
title, and we'll show you bit parts and highlights of that movie,
complete with slow-motion, rewind, and the uncensored version.
-
Musical: it may look like a regular scene, but once in a
while, someone has to burst into a full-blown musical, without preparation...
-
..and many more!
